'Economy driven by women'

Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that the contribution made by women
to the national economy amounts to over US$ 7.2 billion .
"The country's economy is driven by our women population," the
Minister added.
He was speaking at the ceremony organized to launch the Institute of
Leadership and Management in Sri Lanka. The contribution to the national
economy by women serving abroad, garment trade and plantation sector
stand at US$ 3 billion, US$ 2.6 billion and US$ 1.6 billion
respectively.
He said the labour force of the country is increasingly dominated by
more women and it should be developed to strengthen the national
economy.
