Carrom double for Nishantha

Nishantha Fernando and Nayana Wickremasinghe clinched the men’s and women’s singles title respectively in the ninth Rangers Carrom Championship organised by Rangers Sports Club and conducted by the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka from November 14 to 28, 2009.

Nishantha beat Chamil Cooray in the men’s singles final by 25-10, 25-10 while in the women’s singles final Nayana overcame Yasika Rahubedde by 25-20, 25-23.

Nishantha bagged a double when partnered by Viraj Fernando they beat the combination of Chamil Cooray and Germain Goonewardene in the men’s double final by 25-9, 25-15.

Upali Perera took the men’s veteran singles title by overcoming Upali Premachandra by 25-20 and 25-10 in the final. The championship was sponsored by Greenway Agencies of Kurunegala and the Managing Director of the firm Santha Jayasundera gave away the awards.

Men’s Singles- Nishantha Fernando beat Chamil Cooray 23-10, 25-10.

Women’s Singles - Navyana Wickremasinghe beat Yasika Rahubedde 23-20, 25-23.

Men’s Doubles - Nishantha Fernando and Viraj Fernando beat Chamil Cooray and Germain Gunawardene 25-9, 25-15.

Women’s Doubles - Yasika Rahubedde and Udeshika Kumari beat Chalani Lakmali and Anosha Wickremasinghe 4-25, 25-8, 25-9.

Veterans Singles Upali Perera beat Upali Premachandra 25-20, 25-10.
