Sri Lanka Navy vessels rescued 12 Myanmar fishermen stranded in deep
seas on Monday. The rescued fishermen were brought safely to the
Trincomalee Naval Base around midnight yesterday.
The fishermen in distress were first sighted by Senaka 8, a Sri
Lankan multi-day fishing vessel and reported to local authorities. In
response to a request by the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry,
two fast vessels were dispatched by the Sri Lanka Navy for the rescue
mission. The fishermen were found in deep waters 150 nautical miles away
from the Eastern shores and taken onboard the two Navy craft and rushed
ashore.
On reaching the Trincomalee Naval Base they were provided with
emergency medical assistance at the Naval Hospital. All measures were
taken to ensure their welfare by Naval authorities.
