Death of former ANCL Engineer



The death occurred of Y.D.N. Rajapakse (Raja) (69) a former Mechanical Engineer of Lake House (ANCL) (from 1968-1978). He later joined the Salt Corporation and retired as the Chief Mechanical Engineer. After retirement he worked in a private capacity as an Inspector of Boilers and Pressure Vessels till his demise.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday December 2, at the General Cemetery, Mt. Lavinia. Cortege leaves at 4.15 p.m from 431/1A, Galle Road, Mt. Lavinia.


Worker killed in foundation mishap

A construction worker was killed when he was buried under an earth mound while digging an eight-foot deep foundation for a new house in Wattegama. The victim has been identified as Balakrishnan from Alawathugoda.

Inter-crops cultivation

The Coconut Cultivation Board will provide cashew plants and manure free to grow cashew in coconut lands as an inter-crop.

Five million cashew plants will be planted in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts and 1,500 coconut cultivators will be educated on the benefits they can get by cultivating cashew on a large scale.


Unit to mitigate elephant menace

The wild elephants control unit of the Wildlife Conservation Department will take action towards protecting peasants and their properties from wild elephants in Vasgamuva.


Funds for dairy farming

Some 10 million Rupees has been allocated by the North Western Provincial Agriculture, Minor Irrigation, Agrarian services development and Animal production Ministry for the development of the dairy industry.

Nine dairy farming villages will be set up in the Kurunegala district and six dairy farm villages in the Puttalam district.


Isuru schools in NWP

The North Western Provincial Education Department will set up three Isuru schools in the North Western Province. Steps will also be taken to teach students in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The Government will spend Rs 15 million for the project.


New community centres

Three new community centres will be build in the Baddegama Divisional Secretariat Division under the Jathika Saviya Gama Neguma program at a cost of Rs 1,440,000. These community centres will be constructed at Yahaladuwa, Thiruwanaketiya and Dodangoda Grama Niladhari Divisions. A new landscape to Baddegama North community centre will also be constructed at a cost of Rs 480,000.


Annual prize giving

The Annual Prize giving of the Colombo South International College will be held at 4 pm on December 4, at the College Montessori Auditorium, Anderson Road, Kalubowila.

Managing Director of the College. Mangala Wijekularatne will be the chief guest.


Book launch

The first ever book launch of Dr. Hasitha Attanayake titled Apey Palamu Rathriya (First hight together) will take place on Wednesday December 2 at 5 p.m. at the National Youth Centre Auditorium, Maharagama.


Seminar on medicinal drug policy

A public seminar on medicinal drug policy organized by Health Action International Asia Pacific in Collaboration with the Kelaniya University Medical Faculty and the People's Movement for the Rights of Patients will be held on December 5 from 9 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, 100, Independence Square, Colombo 7.

Musical show

The Dhamso musical show organised by the prefects of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda in association with the schools Aesthetic Circle will be held on December 04 at the school hall. The school show will be at 12.00 noon while the public show is scheduled for 6 p.m.


Diamond jubilee of Familians

The 75th Jubilee celebration of Holy Family Convent, Dehiwela will be held in June 2010. The school is in the process of compiling the data of past pupils and well-wishers.
