Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Annual symposium

* Theme for symposium is ‘Exploring New Spheres for a better future’

* Twenty seven resea-rch papers will be presented

The annual symposium of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University will be held on December 4 from 9 am. to 4.30 p.m. at its auditorium at Kandawala Estate, Ratmalana.

The symposium is organized for the second successive year for dissemination of knowledge on defence related studies as well as other diverse subjects as environment, social sciences and engineering aspects.

The theme selected for the symposium this year is ‘Exploring New Spheres for a better future’. Twenty seven research papers will be presented under four themes as Defence Studies, Social Studies and Humanities, Engineering and Environment. In addition to the staff of the General Sir John Kotelawala University, researchers from the universities as University of Moratuwa, Colombo, Jayawardenapura and Ruhuna will be making presentations.

The presentations under the theme of Defence Studies service members from Army, Navy and Air Force and Defence Ministry will make their contributions. As this are the only university offering degree programs on Defence Studies, many interesting papers on lessons learned through the experience of the war by the participants with direct involvements will be presented.

These include defeating terrorism. Sri Lankan experience, game applications to simulate the battle force environment, use of network centric warfare operations, surveillance platform for information acquisition, expansion of national defence expenditure, value of lateral thinking in military problems, and saving lives with emergency Crichothyrodoctonomy in battlefield.

The social science sessions is made up of papers on Norway’s mediation in Sri Lanka peace process, public debt in Sri Lanka, English langauge proficiency and results of GCE examination, teaching English through research writing and many others.
