The Defence Services Athletic Championship which got underway
yesterday at the Sugathadasa Stadium saw woman triple jumper N.C.D.
Priyadarshani from Sri Lanka Navy set a new Sri Lanka record with a leap
of 13.39m.
This achievement from Priyadarshani was highly commendable as the
ground conditions underfoot was not that conducive for athletes to come
out with their best. The earlier record 13.00 for the event was set by
Anusha Ekneligoda in the year 2002.
Sri Lanka Air Force has already taken strong lead after the
completion of 16 events yesterday to collect a total of 69 points (Men
22, Women 47), while the second placed Sri Lanka Army are with 59 points
(Men 35, Women 24) and Sri Lanka Navy 37 points (Men21, Women 16).
The meet will be continued today with 19 events lined up for the day.
In addition to the Sri Lanka record six more meet records were
established on day one. The records that tumbled yesterday are
