Market down

The market indices at the Colombo Stock Exchange came down once more on thin volumes as most investors waited on the sidelines. The broader market ASPI lost 44 points (-1.5 percent) to close at 2,868 while the more sensitive MPI lost 60 points (-1.8 percent) to close at 3,215 yesterday.

Turnover for the day was Rs 710 million with John Keells Holdings accounting for Rs 560 million of the day's business.

There was a single crossing of close to four million shares of the blue chip company at Rs 139.25. JKH closed the day at Rs 137.00, down Rs 3.00 from Friday's closing. Interest was also seen in Lion Breweries with Rs 19 million in turnover. Lion shares closed at Rs 60.00, down 25 cents.
