Over 100 participants representing the construction, building materials and engineering sectors of Sri Lanka were present at the promotion. Ministry of Construction and Engineering Services of Sri Lanka Secretary, Nissanka Wijeratne was the Chief Guest at the event.

Excon 2009 Steering Committee Member and Schwing Stetter India Pvt Ltd, Managing Director Anand Sundaresan in his presentation on Excon 2009 said, "Excon is Asia's third largest trade fair for equipment industry and amongst world's top ten construction equipment and construction technology trade fairs". To achieve a new vision of growth, the Planning Commission of the Government of India has estimated a planned investment of US $ 500 billion in infrastructure in the Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007-2012).

The projected investment in the roads sector, including national highways and rural roads is USD 76 billion, of which a large part is expected to come from private sector, said Sundaresan.

Excon 2009, is an excellent platform for the Government of Sri Lanka to identify potential industry partners in the construction equipment sector, who could offer their expertise and services in the rehabilitation activities such as; construction of highways, housing, sanitation, etc.
