Chathuranga and Rosco put Joes on top

Fine bowling by St. Joseph’s College bowlers Chathuranga Kumara (5 for 28) and Rosco Thatil (5 for 31) helped them to bundle out De Mazenod College for a paltry 78 runs in their under 19 Division one Cricket match played at St. Joseph’s College ground, Darley Road yesterday.

St. Joseph College had scored 128 for 4 wickets by the close aided by two good innings by Jan Jayasinghe (39 n.o.) and Chathuranga Kumara (29).

De Mazenod College 78 (Jude Madusha 16, D.A.D. Maduranga 15, Nipuna Madusanke 12, Chathuranga Kumara 5 for 28, Rosco Thatil 5 for 31.)

St. Joseph’s College 128 for 4 (Jan Jayasinghe 39 n.o., Chathuranga Kumara 29, Rosco Thatil 10 n.o. Sachith Wishwakula 2 for 30.)

Trinity hit back

Trinity College after scoring a modest 176 runs hit back to capture three Ananda wickets for 34 on the first day of their under 19 Division one Cricket match which began at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

Trinity College batting first were restricted to 176 by a fine spell of bowling by Madumal Jayarathne (4 for 40) but hit back to have Ananda reeling at 34 for 3 with spinner Suresh Wickrama taking (2 for 13). Earlier Akila Jayasundara (39)and Rukshan Jaleel (32)batted well for Trinity.

Trinity College 176 - Akila Jayasundara 39, Rukshan Jaleel 32, Suresh Wickrama 22, Heshan Wanniarachchi 20, Madumal Jayarathne 4 for 40, Matheesha Perera 2 for 48.

Ananda College 34 for 3 - Suresh Wickrama 2 for 13.

Anushka shines in drawn game

Left arm, leg spinner Anushka Samaratunge captured a match bag of 8 wickets for 79 as Isipatana College registered a first innings win over the more fancied St. Peter’s College in their under 19 cricket fixture which concluded at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

St. Peter’s going to bat for a second time with a deficit of 74 runs scored 254 for 4 wickets before declaring which gave Isipatana a target of 180 to win in 23 overs and Isipatana were 91 for 4 when rain stopped play.

Andre Berenger top scored for Peterites with 60, while Chatura Pieris (45) and H. Perera (42) made useful contributions.

Thomians get 186

The under 19 inter school cricket match between S. Thomas College Mt. Lavinia and Dharmaraja College, Kandy began at Mount Lavinia yesterday. Even though the more formidable Thomians were bundled out for 186 they hit back to take two Dharmaraja wickets for 30 runs by the close.

S. Thomas 186 all out (Lalindra Peries 44, Nuwan Dharshana 42, Dinesh Walpita 27 , Nuwan Karunaratne 3 for 26, Prasad Silva 3 for 36).
