Corea Cup for Royal stickers

Playing fast and constructive hockey Royal College, Colombo came up with a superlative display to defeat Trinity College, Kandy 2-1 to clinch the J.C.A. Corea Cup in their annual hockey fixture played at Royal College grounds in Colombo on Wednesday. At half time Royalists led 1-0.

Royal College drew first blood midway in the first half through centre forward Danuja Gunasekera who through some skilful stick work advanced to the striking circle before sending in a scorching drive to sound the boards.

Trinitians hit back after the turn around centre forward Luksman Shah who dribbled his way to sound the boards and to equalise.

But they could not stop the Royalists from forging ahead again left flanker Mustapha Rumy displaying a lot of aggressiveness in his play beat two defenders to score and give the Royalists a right Royal victory over their traditional rivals.

M. Naushad and Damith Jayasena Umpired.
