The first round of the State Drama Festival will be held from November 3 - 10 at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre, Colombo. This year three Sinhala dramas and two Tamil dramas selected for the final round would go on the boards, Drama Sub Committee Chairman, said at a press conference held at the ministry.

This year we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the State Drama Festival and we are organizing it more attractively to mark this important landmark in the drama art of the country and this year we are seeing positive change in the drama field.

We have also organized a training workshop on drama for children on November 10, he said.

Sinhala dramas selected for the final round this year are:

1) 'Ahinsakyinge Aramaya' produced by Sujeewa Upendra

2) 'Asai Welava Keeyada' produced by Sahan Ranwala

3) 'Jagan Ma' produced by K.B. Herath

4) 'Apahu Herenna Bae' produced by Rajitha Dissanayake

5) 'Sihinawalata Pata Denna' produced by Sunil Chandrasiri

Tamil dramas selected for the final round:

1) 'Muttai' produced by Mohan Kumar

2) 'Aal Kadalil Oru Saptham'produced by K. Selvaraj

The award winning drama 2008, 'Hari Apuru Davasak' will go on the boards at John de Silva theatre on November 3 as the opening event of the drama festival.
