New Chief Minister for Southern Province : Southern Province Councillors who were selected to the Council, Chief Minister, four Ministers and 33 Councillors were sworn in before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday. Shan Wijayalal de Silva was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Southern Provincial Council at the ceremony. Hemal Gunasekera, V.K. Indika, U.G.D. Ariyatileke and B. President tells UPFA Southern Provincial Councillors:

SP on fast track to progress

President Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that the Southern Province as a whole was on the fast track to development with mega projects and infrastructure facilities being implemented. He instructed the newly elected Councillors to support these endeavours and fulfill the aspirations of the people in the area by working as a team.
