Dham Nalu Rasa, the third in a series of events commemorating the
thirtieth anniversary of Dharmavijaya Foundation as well as the 2600th
anniversary of the Enlightenment of the Buddha, falling on Wesak (May)
Full Moon Day of 2011, will go on boards at Kularatna Hall, Ananda
College, Colombo 10, on November 1 at 6 p.m.
Presented by Maestro of traditional drums, dance and choreography
Ravibandu Vidyapathi and his talented troupe, it features traditional
drums, dance, songs and orchestral music inspired by Buddhist cultural
heritage and begins with Namaskara Gatha, a homage to invoke blessings
of the Triple Gem.Asadrusa Vannama, a dance paying tribute to the
Buddha, follows.
Next is a short ballet depicting the conception of the Bodhisatta, in
the dream of Queen Maha Maya Devi.
Su Visi Vivarana, a Kandyan Ves Dance, will pay homage to the 24
Buddhas, narrating the legend of the past Buddhas.Himi Sanda Jinaratana
is a ballet based on the theme that desire arouses sorrow (Ratiya Jayati
Soko), taken from the Dhammapada, the sacred collection of Buddhist
stanzas.Natir Puja presents a song-dance item based on Tagore's play set
in the court of King Ajatasattu. Hewisi Narthana is a dance highlighting
temple drums of Geta Bera, Davula and Tammattama.
Gajaga Vannama, a traditional dance, depicts the majestic gait of the
Maligawa Tusker, the chief elephant of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth
Relic. The Light of Wisdom will be a ballet on significant events of the
Buddha's life from birth to Mara Yuddha, the struggle of goodness over
evil, heralding the Enlightenment. The grand finale will be Panca
Thooriya Nada, traditional orchestral music and dance, celebrating the
2600th year from the Buddha's Enlightenment. |
