Swine Flu halts Int'l Schools cager tourney

The Under 17 boys basketball tournament organized by the Colombo International School was well on its way to completion when Swine Flu broke out at Lyceum International School Nugegoda and Lyceum International School Wattala. The two schools were closed from Monday the 19th due to a break out of swine flu among its students.

The eleven International Schools entered for the U-17 boys basketball tournament are - CIS, AIS, Leighton Park, Stafford, Wycherely, Royal Institute, Gateway, Alethea, Moir, Lyceum, Nugegoda and Wattala. The tournament that started on October 12 and to be completed on October 25 has now been indefinitely postponed by the organizers. The tournament will commence once the schools reopen and the date to re-start the tournament is yet to be decided.

The teams already qualified for the semi-finals are Gateway College beating Stafford International School - 75/29 and Asian International School beating Alethea International School 61/32.

The players will now wait for the other two quarter-finals Lyceum Wattala Vs Royal Institute and Lyceum Nugegoda Vs Wycherely International School, to be played, in order to enter the semi-finals. Lyceum International School Nugegoda are the defending champions. If they win their quarter-finals they will meet Gateway College in the semi-finals.
