Explosion kills girl, injures 12
Police suspect personal dispute as cause:

A 12-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries and another 11 school
children and the driver of a school van were injured due to an explosion
in a school van, Udavalpola, Kurunegala yesterday morning, Police and
Kurunegala hospital sources told the Daily News yesterday.
Police Spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka said the explosion
occurred at 6.55 am yesterday at Udavalpola road Kurunegala as the
driver started the van to take12 school children on board to their
schools.

“We believe the explosion resulted due a personnel dispute and Police
are conducting investigation as to how the explosion had occurred,” the
Police Spokesman added.
“The 12 children and the driver who were injured in the explosion
were admitted to the Kurunegala hospital,” he added.
“Isuri Erandika Dissanayake a 12-year-old girl of Maliyadeva Balika
Vidyalaya, Kurunegala who was admitted to the hospital succumbed to her
injuries around 11.15 am,” Director of the Kurunegala Hospital Dr. Soma
Rajamanthree told the Daily News.
She said that the girl died due to bleeding following injuries caused
to her leg.
The Government Analyst Department officials were also called into
conduct further investigations to the incident, the Police Spokesman
added. |
