Lankans in US raise funds for displaced
The Sri Lankan community in Houston, US, organized an event to raise
funds for the displaced people of the north living in IDP camps.
They raised over US$ 36,000. The funds were remitted to We Care Sri
Lanka to purchase of milk for IDP children.
Among the events organized by the Sri Lankan community in Houston was
a band of children presenting songs and local dances of both Sinhalese
and Tamil communities.
They also organized a charity dinner and US nationals and Sri Lankans
of all ethnic groups attended these events. US citizens including
Houston Mayor Bill White, Houston Sports Authority Chairman Kent
Friedman, Former Congressman Lick Lampson and Houston University
President Dr.William Staples attended the event. |
