Timely action averts robbery

A major robbery was averted and four armed suspects arrested in
Meegahathenna, Kalutara due to timely action taken on information by
Police Intelligence Unit yesterday.
Robbers who were waiting to rob a vehicle in Meegahathenna area were
arrested by police around 3.10 a.m., police spokesman Senior DIG Nimal
Mediwake said. “The suspects were waiting to rob Rs.500,000 from a
person who was coming in the vehicle”, he added.
A special team from Western Province Intelligence Unit on information
provided from a reliable source nabbed the suspects. “We have prevented
a serious crime by timely acting on information”, the SDIG told the
Daily News.
He said a shot gun, four ammunition, a kris knife, a toy pistol and a
trishaw were recovered from the robbers.
Initial inquiries disclosed that the group was acting in the area for
a long time and committed several crimes.
