Veteran golfer and cricketer Sirath Kasthuriratne was the overall
Nett winner while Sam Gunaratne won the Gross title at the August
monthly medal golf championship organised by the Victoria Golf and
Country Resort which was worked off at the Victoria Golf course at
Rajawella.
Back to form Sirath Kasthuriratne playing to a handicap of 16 got a
net 72 and Sam Gunaratne playing to a handicap of 10 followed closely
with Nett 73 and Voinert Holm was in third place with 75 Nett playing to
a handicap of 20. Former Vidyartha cricketer Sam Gunaratne came good to
win the Gross title for men with a gross score of 83 and with the hassle
of handicap gone, he had a comfortable lead of 5 strokes over Sirath
Kasthuriratne who got 88 gross and in third place was Englishman Ian
Tait with 92.
It was quite a remarkable performance both by Gunaratne and
Kasthuriratne for having forged ahead of Ian Tait a golfer with immense
skills and has won many major events at Victoria and also has lot of
golfing experience in Dubai.
But Ian Tait did not go home without a title when he lifted the Mens
Division One title for handicappers between 10 to 12 with a score of 85.
The Division two title for handicappers between 13 to 28 was won by
Swede Voinert Holm with a score of 75.
