Text books to be sent on A-9

Discontinuing the earlier practice, the Education Ministry will send school text books for 2010 to North and East by ground route on the A-9 road, Education Minister Susil Premajayanth said.

Accordingly, the Education Ministry has scheduled to send 1,000,000 text books to schools in Jaffna on Wednesday 23 by lorries spending Rs.108 million.

Earlier, the Education Ministry had to get the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy for transporting text books to Jaffna spending more money.

“But as a result of the peaceful situation prevailing in the country, ground route can now be used for text books transportation,” Minister Premajayanth said.

These text books will be handed over to the Education authorities in Jaffna on Thursday and they will make necessary arrangements for distribution them among schools.
