Special project to double Victoria output

The Power and Energy Ministry said plans are underway to commence the construction work to double the output of Victoria Hydro power plant by next year.

The Ministry said this has been made possible following the successful completion of the preliminary feasibility studies carried out on increasing the 210 megawatt power capacity under Mahaweli Power House Complex upto 420 megawatt at the Victoria Hydro Power Complex.

The project will be funded by Japan Economic Cooperation and top level officials of this institution had a meeting with the Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne in Colombo recently.

The Minister thanked the Japanese Government for its economic assistance towards Sri Lanka especially in the field of hydro power projects.

The Japanese representatives assured the Minister that Japan would extend its assistance in gas generated hydro power projects in future in Sri Lanka.
