Elephant Pass railway station project:

Student contributions exceed expectations

Financial contributions made by school students for the Elephant Pass Railway Station modernization project has surpassed expectations and exceeded the Rs. 10 million mark, Education Ministry sources said.

The project is being implemented according to a concept of Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.

Ministry hopes to re-name the railway station as 'Senehasaka Thotupala' and school students except those from the Northern Province could contribute for the project. The minimum contribution for project is Rs. 2.

The money could be deposited to the Bank Account No. 9393439 of Bank of Ceylon, Pelawatte branch, sources added.

The project is to be carried out as a joint venture by Education Ministry and Transport Ministry.
