* Civilians commend Government’s efforts
Another 5,320 persons belonging to 1,000 families earlier residing in
welfare centres in Vavuniya were resettled in their villages of origin
yesterday.
The families left for their places of origin followed by an event
held at the Vavuniya Cultural Centre under the patronage of Senior
Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP during which they were provided
with cooking utensils.
The families were earlier housed at 28 welfare villages in three PS
divisions such as Vavuniya, Vavuniya north and Settikulam.
They have been resettled after equipping the areas with facilities
such as electricity, schools, roads, hospitals, postal services, banks,
cooperatives, drinking water etc.
This has taken place after the UN body dealing with Internally
Displaced Persons had declared that the area was viable for
resettlement. According to sources in the area the civilians have
commended the efforts made by the Government to resettle them in their
villages and provide them with facilities.
The resettlement is being carried out on the President’s
instructions. Guidance is provided by Uthuru Vasanthaya Chief and Senior
Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP. |
