Chaminda PERERA
The Government has set up a National Development Media Centre at the
Media Ministry premises to disseminate news pertaining to the
development activities carried out by the Government.
According to Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, this centre
will maintain close co-ordination with the Government agencies and other
relevant stakeholders who are involved in the development activities
islandwide.
Former Information Director General and one time Director General for
President's Media Unit Ariya Rubasinghe has been appointed as the
Director General of this centre. "The officers in this Centre will work
round the clock and monitor the development work being carried out
islandwide. They will be the official authority to disseminate accurate
news on the development activities in the country, he said. Rubasinghe
told the Daily News that this Centre will launch a website which
consists of most modern facilities such as voice mail.
Members of the public can comment on the development activities and
register complaints over the shortcomings of the development project
through this website. He said the Centre is in the process of collecting
necessary data from the Government agencies. A periodical is also going
to be issued by the centre in the future, Rubasinghe said.
