Cop caught in the act

A Police constable from Bandaragama was arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a Trishaw driver who was earlier caught transporting illicit liquor.

The Constable who was arrested near the Bandaragama Magistrate Courts while accepting a part of the solicited bribe (Rs. 5,000) is accused of aiding the arrested trishaw driver during investigations.

According to Acting Investigations Director of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption, Sarath Lokuge, the Constable had first taken Rs. 1,000 from the trishaw driver and later demanded another Rs. 50,000.
