Outing for Vanni's orphaned children

A group of parentless children in the North cared for by the Siriliya Sevana program mooted by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa visited the Kandasami Kovil in Vavuniya to participate in religious observances yesterday.

The group all girls numbered 129. Their visit was made possible due to the intervention of Senior DIG (North) Nimal Leuke. Volunteers attached to the Siriliya Sevana program and police played the role of their parents by helping and assisting them in the religious observances.

The Siriliya Saviya program caters to the welfare of these children who have lost both their parents due to terrorism. Of them 64 are housed at the 'Siriliya Saviya' centre at Wairava Puliyankulam. And the balance stay at various Kovils cared for by the Siriliya Saviya.

All children of school going age have been found schools and six of them even attend an International School.
