Tutor stabbed while conducting class

The Police are still inquiring into the killing of a well-known private tutor Harsha Lankajith in Kurunegala, a spokesman for the Kurunegala police said.

Four police teams are conducting separate inquiries to apprehend the suspects.

Private tutor Lankajith is said to have been stabbed by an unknown gang while conducting an English tuition class at his house on Tuesday.

Neighbours said that he was famous for teaching English to students who seek foreign educational opportunities, especially those going to England.

According to the police, an unidentified four member gang had entered Lankajith's house around 11 a.m. while Lankajith was conducting an English class. The group had held the household members, students and office staff at gunpoint. Then they had searched the house throughly. After about half an hour the group had left the place in a car belonging to a student who had come to learn English.

Police said that the group had taken away a computer belonging to the victim. A few minutes later Lankajith was found lying on the ground with stab injuries.

Investigations are continuing.
