Suspects nabbed within one hour

Nawalapitiya police have succeeded in arresting two suspects who were fleeing after robbing a huge amount of money and goods worth over Rs. 200,000 from several shops at Kadiellena, Nawalapitiya, within one hour of the incident.

Acting on a tip-off received by its Emergency Call Unit, the Nawalapitiya police erected road blocks instantly and apprehended the suspects who were fleeing on a motorbike with the looted goods around 4 a.m. on Friday.

Central Province Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne told the Daily News that the suspects had robbed six of the nine shops at Kadiellena, Nawalapitiya.

The suspects, believed to be from the Maskeliya area had in their possession gold jewellery, watches, mobile phones and mobile phone cards robbed from the shops. The total amount of money in their possession has not been revealed yet.
