performance in education from the chief Minister, Central
Province, Sarath Ekanayaka. |
Every parent desires their children to be educated and to make them
valuable persons in society. The Education Department has understood it
as a children's fundamental right. We have rightly understood that and
their is no difference as Sinhala, Tamil and Muslims in adhering to that
right, said Central Provincial Council Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka.
He was speaking at the opening of a two-storeyed building put up at
the Siddhi Lebbe Vidyalaya Kandy at a cost of six million Rupees. He
said the race did not matter in the cause of education. There are 109
schools for Muslim students and 430 schools for Tamil students in Kandy
while 900 schools are for students in Sinhala. Siddhi Lebbe Vidyalaya in
Kandy will add to that and it will facilitate the education in three
languages in the future.
Nine schools were reopened in the Central Province. One of them was
Owitikanda Kirimatiyawa Vidyalaya which was closed in 2004. It was
reopened in 2006 and became a good school that won productivity awards.
The number of students who enter the Medical faculty has increased to 30
percent which is gratifying, he said. |
