Africa: Malaria widely spreads

Africa: Africa is the continent hardest hit by malaria and hosts 86 percent of the 287 million annual cases reported in the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) Director for Africa Luis Gomez Sambo called at a forum with the African Union, among other organizations, to reinforce national disease control programs, medication control namely.

Preventive programs implemented in Botswana, Sao Tome and Prince, South Africa and Swaziland have curbed the statistics of the victims of the parasite Plasmodium.

On the other hand, they also discuss strategies to curb propagation of Flu A (H1N1) and called to collect medication and other resources to fight the Flu, whose toll so far have been some 1,800 fatalities in the world.
