Project to control Non Communicable Diseases among IDPs

The Government will implement a surveillance project to control and
prevent Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) among Internally Displaced
People in welfare centers in Vavuniya.
Addressing the inauguration of the "Nirogi Lanka" project in Colombo
yesterday, Sri Lanka Medical Association President Prof. Rezvi Sheriff
said this system is in addition to a number of communicable diseases
surveillance programs undertaken by the Healthcare and Nutrition
Ministry to ensure good healthcare of IDPs.
He said that immunization, antenatal care, health education,
environmental health, mental health and diseases surveillance are taking
place at present.
Clinics will be conducted for the benefit of IDPs to provide
healthcare to patients suffering from NCDs in the camps. The existing
NCD situation in the camps will be closely monitored under this project.
"We have planned to deliver printed health care books to 300,000 IDPs
living in welfare centers to educate them on NCD," he said.
The project will be carried out under the instructions of Healthcare
and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. |
