Elders' homes for IDP senior citizens

Over 550 senior citizens living in welfare camps in Vavuniya will be
sent to Elders Homes in Mannar and Vavuniya on their own accord.
According to a spokes- man of the Resettlement and Relief Service
Ministry, 300 senior citizens who are above the age of 60 have expressed
willingness to go to the Thirukediswaran Elders' Home in Mannar while
the balance 250 will be sent to the Elders' Home according to their
will.
NIBM awards ceremony today
Former Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P. B.Jayasundara will deliver
the keynote address at the annual awards ceremony of the National
Institute of Business Management to be held today.
This year's awards ceremony comes with the recognition of NIBM by the
Higher Education Ministry as a body confer degrees to its students.
Death of Neshani Cooray
The Consular Affairs division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has
been informed of the death of a Sri Lankan Eren Lake Neshani Cooray in
Lebanon.
Since there is no information of Cooray's relatives or next-of kin (NOK),
any NOK or those known to the deceased have been requested to contact
the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 3rd Floor,

Productivity Awards
The Productivity Awards Presentation Ceremony of the Western and
Southern Province organised by the National Productivity Secretariat
will be held today at 2.00 pm at the new auditorium, of the district
Secretariat Office, Kalutara. Selected institutions that have realised
their objectives by successfully implementing their productivity
programmes in 2008 will receive their awards at this ceremony.
Help sought to trace man
Olanga Chandra Jayawardena (60) husband of Chitra Jayawardena is
reported missing from his residence at No. 392/A Matara Road, Magalle,
Galle since August 27, Police Public Relations Bureau said. He is six
feet tall, fair in complexion with white spots on his chin and eyebrows
and has an unsteady gait in walking due to parkinsons disease.
He was last seen in a black trouser and blue short sleeved shirt. Any
information regarding him should be furnished to Chitra Jayawardena on

'Open minds close wounds'

The Asian Wound Healing Associations' second meeting on 'Open Minds
Close Wounds' organised by the Wound Care Association of Sri Lanka will
be inaugurated today at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo.
Prof. Mandika Wijeratne, Chairman of the Wound Care Foundation Sri
Lanka speaking to the Daily News on this event said, at this 'Open
minds' meeting a group of indigenous medical practitioners in this
region will speak on their methods of wound healing using fruits and
leaves.
This group comprise: Dr. Kosala Somaratne - 'Bees honey on infected
wounds'. Dr. Nimal Ratnasena - 'Use of papaw on wound healing'. Prof. M.
Sahu - 'Wounds and its management in Ayurveda'. Dr. Lakshmi Arambewala -
'Wound healing aspects of betel leaves'. Dr. Pradeep Jain - 'Herbal
cream on wound healing'. Dr. O. P. Singh - 'Application of leach in
healing diabetic ulcers'.
Among other topics to be discussed at this symposium are - Podiatry
basics (foot surgery), Fighting the devil in the 21st century, Stoma -
dealing with the misery, Tackling the devils gift to man and Diabetic
foot - the scourge of the 21st century.
Lions charter celebrations
The Lions Club of Colombo City will celebrate its 27th Charter
Anniversary Celebrations on September 5. This function will be held at
Hotel Taj Samudra (Crystal Ballroom) at 8 p.m.
Poya day lecture
The Conference of Sri Lankan Malays (Coslam) will hold its monthly

Annual solemnity
The parishioners of St. John the Baptist, Modera will be celebrating
the 190th annual solemnity of the beheading of St. John the Baptist on
Sunday, September 6.
Speech contest
The finals of a speech contest on Suicide Prevention organised by Sri
Lanka Sumithrayo will be held at the Nava Rangahala, Colombo on
September 10 at 8.30 a.m. to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.
Prof. Carlo Fonseka will deliver the keynote address on this day.
Director, Sri Lanka Sumithrayo Surakshi Siriwardena said the first
round of this contest is currently being held provincialwise in the Uva,
Sabaragamuwa, North Central, North Western, Central, Eastern and Western
Provinces. The first five place winners in each province will take part
in the finals for picking the provincial winner and the all island
winners (first three places).
