Health Ministry orders inquiry

Director General of Health Services, Dr.Ajith Mendis has ordered the National Drug Authority and the National Drug Quality Assurance Authority to conduct a full inquiry into the incident of discovering a weevil inside an injection bottle used at the Colombo National Hospital and submit the report by yesterday evening, Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry spokesman said.

He said that the Ministry took immediate steps to withdraw entire batch of the injection soon after the incident.

The Colombo National Hospital has purchased the injection locally and all the parties connected to the incident including the local company which sold it to the hospital, the Chief Pharmacist was to be questioned during the inquiry. The hospital has used injection for the ulcers in the intestines.
