President congratulates Hatoyama

President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a message to the Leader of the Democratic Party of Japan Yukio Hatoyama, congratulated him on his resounding victory at the Parliamentary election on August 30.

“The victory is a clear demonstration of the confidence the people of Japan have placed in your leadership and vision for a new era for Japan.

I believe that the historic victory of the Democratic Party of Japan which you so ably led will pave the way for greater prosperity in Japan,” he said.

“Sri Lanka enjoys long standing relations with your country based on historical and cultural links dating back to many centuries.

We acknowledge with much gratitude the generous contribution Japan has continued to make towards the socio-economic development in our country.

“I look forward to working closely with you to further enhance the relations between our two countries for the mutual benefit of our people,” President Rajapaksa said.
