SLDRO ‘A’ six-a-side champions

Sri Lanka Deaf Rehabilitation Organization ‘A’ team came out with flying colours displaying their talents to bag the Ryle de Mel Trophy, beating Sri Lanka Deaf Youth Association ‘B’ team in final at the All Island Dennis Fonseka Memorial Deaf six-a-side softball the cricket tournament at Shalika ground, Narahenpita recently. It was organized by the Deaf School Past Pupils’ Association.

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Association this year under the patronage of President and chairman Diamond Jubilee Organizing Committee, Shivantha Vivekanandan.

Shivantha Vivekanandan stated that this tournament was honoured to Late Dennis Fonseka on distinguished past pupil from the School for the Deaf, Ratmalana. He was Hony. Secretary for 32 years, President for 1 year and Hony. Treasurer for 1 year, as well as Hony. Life Member of the Association.

Sri Lanka Deaf Youth Association ‘B’ Team bagged the Ryle de Mel Trophy as the runners up. Divan from Sri Lanka Deaf Youth Association ‘B’ Team was awarded the Best Batsman while Muditha and Prasanna, both award from Sri Lanka Deaf Rehabilitation Organization were awarded the Best Bowler’s and the Man of the Series awards and cash prizes.

Nihal Fonseka, son of Late Dennis Fonseka and Ryle de Mel gave away the awards.

1st Round - SLDRO ‘A’ beat Colombo ‘A’. Colombo ‘A’ - 23 runs all out in 2.5 overs. SLDRO ‘A’ - 24 runs for 3 wickets in 4.1 overs.

Ragama ‘A’ beat SLDYA ‘C’. SLDYA ‘C’ - 48 runs for 4 wickets in 5 overs. Ragama ‘A’ - 51 runs for 0 wicket in 3.1 overs.

Thihariya ‘A’ beat Ragama ‘B’. Thihariya ‘A’ - 56 runs for 2 wickets in 5 overs. Ragama ‘B’ - 52 runs all out in 4.5 overs.

SLDYA ‘B’ beat Colombo ‘B’. SLDYA ‘B’ - 52 runs all out in 4 overs. Colombo ‘B’ - 41 runs for 4 wickets in 5 overs.

SLDYA ‘A’ beat Thihariya ‘B’. SLDYA ‘A’ - 62 runs for 4 wickets in 5 overs. Thihariya ‘B’ - 37 runs for 1 wicket in 5 overs.

Quarter Finals

SLDRO ‘A’ beat Ragama ‘A’. SLDRO ‘A’ - 56 runs for 4 wickets in 5 overs. Ragama ‘A’ - 30 runs all out in 3.2 overs.

Anuradhapura ‘A’ beat Colombo ‘C’. Colombo ‘C’ - 37 runs all out in 5 overs. Anuradhapura ‘A’ - 43 runs for 2 wickets in 2 overs.

Thihariya ‘A’ beat Kalutara ‘A’. Thihariya ‘A’ - 65 runs for 1 wicket in 5 overs. Kalutara ‘A’ - 45 runs for 3 wickets in 5 overs.

SLDYA ‘B’ beat SLDYA ‘A’. SLDYA ‘B’ - 58 runs for 3 wickets in 5 overs. SLDYA ‘A’ - 45 runs all out in 4.4 overs.
