Doppler Radar machine to monitor sudden climatic changes

The Meteorology Department has taken steps to instal a Doppler Radar Machine to observe the climatic changes which shown within a short-space of time.

"This will help us to check the data relating to sudden rains and the direction and velocity of the wind sweeping across Sri Lanka in a short space of time."

"This is very vital in navigational and air travel activities," Meteorology Department Director General G.B. Samarasinghe said.

This Doppler Radar Machine costing Rs. 400 million will be set up in Gongala, Deniyaya and assistance will be obtained from World Meteorology Association.
