Rains on the wane

The thunder showers that prevailed during last week over several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts will recede from today, a Meteorology Department Senior Official told the Daily News yesterday.

He said isolated thundershowers associated with temporary localised fairly strong winds may develop in the Uva, Eastern and North Central Provinces during the evenings.

He also said that an order has been placed to purchase a "Doppler Radar" to forecast short range weather variations more accurately.

Meanwhile, Health authorities yesterday warned the public to pay special attention on keeping their domestic environment free from mosquito breeding places as dengue may spread again with the rain.

Dengue hit the worst levels this year claiming over 235 lives and afflicted over 23,000 people when compared to previous years.
