Work on rail line to Kataragama from Matara on track

Work on the new railway line to Kataragama from Matara is in full swing. Work on the railway track from Matara to Beliatte is almost complete under the first phase of the project.

"The main obstacle was constructing a bridge over Nilwala River at Piladuwa. The bridge has already been constructed."

The construction of most of the other small scale bridges and culverts have also been completed. The construction process of laying the railway track to Beliatte from Matara will commence immediately.

"The total construction will be completed most probably by April next year," sources said.
