Severe droughts prompt food crisis in Mexico
Mexico: A continued and severe rain shortage in Mexico is
leading the country to a food crisis, National Farm Confederation
alerted Thursday.
Rural areas dedicated to farming are facing a serious situation due
to the severe rain shortage, some farm and livestock organizations, the
federal government and National Water Commission, CONAGUA coincided to
affirm.
The production of basic beans has also confronted difficult
situations, with losses of more than 1,153 million dollars.
Corn harvests have registered a decline in 75 percent of its
production in states like Puebla, Hidalgo, Aguascalientes, Michoacan,
Guanajuato and Tlaxcala, which represents more than 2.5 millions of
hectares.
On the other hand, The National Confederation of Livestock
Organizations reports the death of 50,000 heads of cattle because of
