Trade Unions hail President

Trade unions country-wide have lauded President Mahinda Rajapaksa for defeating terrorism in the country and for serving the working class.

Joint Council of Trade Unions (JCTU) have unanimously announced their gratitude to President Rajapaksa for removing the country's decades-old terrorism problem and establishing peace after 30 years and for serving its working class.

JCTU Convener S. Alavi Mowlana said the Council has decided to pay their gratitude to the President its leaders' meeting on last Thursday.

He said they decided at the meeting to hold discussions with the Government regarding workers' Cost of Living allowance which was to have been paid to the workers.

The JCTU will also discuss several issues pertaining to workers' not getting their property and distress loans, said Mawlana.

"We will also discuss with a focus to reacquire the privilege to be able to fulfill 20 per cent of the vacancies in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service on a merit basis," he said.
