SPC elections Postal voting extended
The Postal Voting application closing date which was set to expire at
mid-night today, has been extended till midnight August 25. The decision
has been taken to provide more time for prospective applicants who wish
to use the facility to vote at the upcoming Southern Provincial Council
elections to forward their applications, a press release from the
Election Secretariat said.
It stated: It is specially notified that at this election officers in
essential services, personnel in the three Armed Services and the Police
and officers and staff serving in the three administrative, Districts in
the Province who are likely to be deployed for election duty are
entitled to apply for postal voting.
"State officers who are registered as voters in the Southern Province
but serving elsewhere in the Island cannot be afforded the facility to
vote by post and therefore, they should not apply for this facility.
They could apply for leave in terms of Section 123 of the Provincial
Councils Elections Act. No. 2 of 1988.
Officers certifying postal votes applications should personally
examine applications before they certify applications for postal voting.
They are requested to transmit all the certified applications
immediately to the Returning Officer of the District to reach him by
1200 midnight on 28th August 2009. Applications received after the last
date will be rejected," the release said. |
