Awaiting 'Theja'

Seasoned actress Nita Fernando who dished out an exceptional performance in Prasanna Vithanage's Pawru Walalu (Walls Within) is expecting to bring the old magic back onto the silver screen with 'Theja', a tale revolving around a series of incidents connected to the life of the working class in connection to the apparel industry.

A group of female apparel workers go on a strike against the harsh management techniques instilled by their employers. Leading them on is Theja, a woman who had taken up employment and had become the breadwinner of the family after her husband had met with an accident. She witnesses the injustices taking place at the work place and urges her companions to stand up for their rights.

The scenes shift to how the employers seek political aid and other indiscriminating paths to find means of stopping the wall building up against their authority. The story captures the tug of war, reflecting the reality of the antagonism and mistrust between two groups, each trying to overpower the other for their own survival and greed for power.

Experienced actor Mahendra Perera will take on the character of Theja's husband. Talented actress Chamila Peries portrays the tough character of the chairperson of the apparel industry in her debut movie. Irangani Serasinghe, Anuruddika Padukkage, Sujani Menaka, Dharmapriya Dias, Srimal Wedisinghe and others comprise the cast.

The movie is directed by Nilantha Hapanveera who had also scripted the tale centering on a courageous women's fight against injustice. He had previously made some noteworthy teledramas like Thimira Sevanali, Asunaka Randi Mal, Alu Banduna, Sanda Sakmana and Piyagata Pamula. Kavinda Ranaweera is the cameraman while Stanley de Alwis is the editor. Manjula Ayagama is the art director and Hansaka Sameera is the make up artist. Sarath Wijesekara is the production manager of the creation in which Chandana Irugalbandara is the assistant director.

Navaratne Gamage is the music director. The background vocals are by Sunila Abeysekara. The lyrics are penned by Wasantha Kumara Kobawaka. The production executives are Mahil R. Perera and Thilanka Perera. 'Theja' is produced by Mayura Cine Ru Pvt Ltd.
