A Child Resources Centre will be established at Nagaswatte,
Kirulapone with financial assistance from the Leeds City Council England
with nearly one million rupees, CMC Public Health Department Chief
Medical Officer Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam said. He said awareness programs
relating to education, counseling and child development will be
conducted through the centre.
The CMC hopes to establish similar centres throughout the city for
the welfare of low income groups in the city, Dr. Kariyawasam added.
Commenting on the condition of eating houses in the city, Dr.
Kariyawasam said CMC has raided 15 eating houses and filed court cases
against nine of them. He said the United Nations International
Development Organization (UNIDO) has agreed to provide necessary
training for hotel staff specially in the field of food handling with
the support of the private sector.
A large number of vacancies in the Public Health Department are yet
to be filled and this situation is adversely affecting the provision of
a better health service to the public. Public Health Department needs
more health supervisors and public health inspectors. |
