Indo-Lanka agreement to support NE projects

The Sri Lanka - India bilateral cooperation agreement signed at the
Ministry of Construction and Engineering services on July 22 to support
development projects in the construction industry is already being
implemented in the Northern and the Eastern Provinces under the Uthuru
Vasanthaya program.
There are many development projects already implemented to
reconstruct buildings, roads and infrastructure facilities which were
damaged due to the terrorist attacks.
The bilateral agreement was signed between the Institute of
Construction Training And Development (ICTAD) which comes under the
Ministry of Construction and Engineering Services and Construction
Industry Development Council (CIDC) under the Indian Government.
“There are several objectives in signing this bilateral agreement. It
will increase Gross National Product (GNP), reduce unemployment,
rehabilitation and to involve in NE development projects, setup and to
provide resources, to enhance infrastructure facilities and also to
increase the involvement of manpower specially in construction and
engineering services in the Northern Province.
These projects are mainly targeted at the development of the Northern
Province and the required human resources and financial resources will
be provided through the bilateral agreement.
We are planning to complete the development projects according to the
given time lines,” Minister Rajitha Senarathne said. |
