Expert committees to recommend law reforms
Justice and Law Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda has appointed
several committees to consider and recommend reforms to existing laws in
the areas of Juvenile Justice, Arbitration, Legal Aid, Family Law, Legal
Education, Thesawalamai and Prisons, which are regarded as inadequate to
meet with current realities.
The policy of the Government is to ensure a unified and inclusive
approach to develop and maintain law and order in Sri Lanka after the
eradication of terrorism and Justice and Law Reforms Minister is
accordingly committed to empower the rules and regulations for the
benefits to the communities, a media communique issued by the Justice
and Law Reforms Ministry said.
The Heads of the committees are as
follows:
Legal Aid Commission Chairman S.S.Wijeratne, Chairman of the
Committee to consider reforms in the area of legal aid, Prof. Savitri
Gunasekera, Chairperson of the Committee to consider reforms in the area
of Family Law, Supreme Court Judge Shirani Bandaranayake, Chairperson of
the Committee to consider reforms in the area of Legal Education, Saleem
Marsoof P.C., Chairman of the Committee to consider reforms to the
Arbitration Laws, Supreme Court Judge K. Sripavan, Chairman of the
Committee to review the Thesawalamai Law, Chairman of the Committee to
consider Prison Reforms and Retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Hector
Yapa and Chairperson of the Committee to consider reforms in the area of
Juvenile Justice Laws Justice Shiranee Thilakawardena. |
