Colombo would turn into a new clean city even before the completion
of the planned 100 day program undertaken with the help of all the
divisions of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), private sector and the
public, CMC competent Authority, Omar Kamil said.
"In the recent past, the CMC lacked political or official direction.
With the political support given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, I will
be able to serve the people of Colombo with commitment," Kamil told
Daily News yesterday.
Sunday cleaning process in the commercial hub started in the Pettah
area from Malwatta road to Olcott Mawatha and the previous Sunday's
program in the Colombo 7 area carried out by solid waste management,
drainage, road development and public health department officials of the
CMC was a success providing a visible change to the public eye, he said.
Kamil said he will meet the city traffic police officials today to find
ways to manage city traffic to enable motorists to reach their
destinations without delay and to prevent traffic congestion. |
