National level tourney commences this weekend
The 11th annual DSI Super Sports Schools Volleyball Championships for
Boys and Girls under 14, 16 and 18 District and Provincial level
tournaments completed last week.
The Champions and runners up of the Provincial tourney have now
qualified to play in the national championship which is scheduled to
commence this week en at the Rajasinghe Maha Vidyalaya courts at
Hanwella. The play on these matches are scheduled to commence at 8.30
a.m. each day.
The DSI Super Sports VB Championship which started eleven years ago
with the sole intention of promoting the national sport of Sri Lanka
gained momentum and it has reached a grrat height with over 4500 teams
competing this year.
This years tournament also has some significance as it has attracted
teams from all part of the country including the schools from nothern
and Eastern Provinces. Thes teams participation also increased the
number of teams this year to this great number.
The competition coming from these two Provinces is sure to add more
challenges to the other teams other parts of the country which did not
confront in the past ten years.
The tournament can be considered as the best as it has given the
opportunity for the national selectors to find the highly talented
spikers for the national team from their young age.
The finals of the tournament is expected to held during the third
week of August.
