Rahula wins on a penalty shoot out

The annual soccer encounter Golden Ensigns - Football Cup 2009 between Rahula and St. Thomas Colleges of Matara was played recently at the Uyanwatte Football Stadium, Matara. Both teams failed to score during the ninety minutes of play and the result of the match was decided on penalty kicks. Rahula scoring nine goals to eight by S. Thomas.

Match was keenly contested though St. Thomas missed several sitters. Four annual encounters played earlier were won by St. Thomas College and three were won by Rahula College. Both teams played constrictive soccer keeping the soccer fans present numbering over 5,000 spellbound.

The Chief Guest on the occasion was Lieutenant Colonel Chandana Somaweera, a distinguished old boy of Rahula College.
