National Youth Games from today

The 21st National Youth Games organized by the National Youth Council gets underway today at the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla with over 3000 participants.

Minister of Health care and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva and Minister of Youth Affairs Pavithra Wanniarachchi will open the three day youth sports extravaganza with National Athletes Prasanna Sampath Amarasekera and Sherina Clarance lighting the Olympic flame.

This year's meet will be more competitive than it was in the past years as sports personal from Northern and Eastern Provinces too seen in action, posing a great challenge to last year's overall champions Kurunegala District.

The closing ceremony will be held from 4.30p.m. on August 03 with Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake as the chief guest. The president and the Director of National Youth Council Bhashwara Senanka Gunaratne praised the support offered by the Minister of Youth Affairs Pavithra Wanniarachchi in organizing the event.
