Bodies with gun shot injuries found

Two unidentified male bodies were found with gun shot injuries in Rattanapitiya, Mirihana last morning, police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said.

He said following information, Mirihana police found the two bullet riddled bodies near Delkanda junction in Rattanapitiya road around 1.30am.

"The two had been shot on their heads while their hands and legs were tied and mouths gagged," he said


Six nabbed for flouting liquor ban

Six persons who sold arrack without a permit flouting the liquor ban imposed during the perahera season were arrested by officers of the Central Province Frauds Bureau along with 110 bottles of arrack on Wednesday.

The arrests were made in Kandy and Mahaiyawa. The suspects were produced before Kandy Chief Magistrate who imposed fines totalling Rs. 110,000 on them.

A team led by Inspector Jayasiri Amarasinghe is conducting further investigations.


Appointment

Ven. Sri Saddharmabharateeshwaracharya Pandita Metaramba Hemaratana Thera, Viharadhipati, Situlpawwa Raja Maha Viharaya, Magul Maha Viharaya, and Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya was appointed Deputy Chief Sanghanayake Thera of Dakshina Lanka with the honorary title "Saddarma Kirthi Sri Ratanasara" by the Karaka Maha Sangha Sabha of the Malwatte Chapter.

He received his act of appointment from Most Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddharta Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter at a ceremony at the Malwatta Maha Viharaya recently.

Ven. Hemaratana Thera has functioned as Parivenadhipati of the Yatagala Hettawala Maha Pirivena for 20 years, Lekakadhikari of the Akmeemana Regional Shasanarakshaka Sabha for 8 years and Secretary of the Galle District Parivenadhipati Union for a considerable period.


Help little Dinithi

One and a half year old M.H. Dinithi Natasa Mapa is suffering from profound hearing loss and impairment of speech. Consultant ENT Surgeon Dr. Devanand Jha has recommended a Cochlear Implant Surgery and speech therapy to restore her hearing and speech.

The Surgery is estimated to cost around Rs. 1.9 million to Rs. 2.9 million depending on the cochlear implant used. The girls father M.H.E. Hemantha Mapa says he is unable to foot this bill due to his family's present financial plight.

He requests philanthropists and the public to assist his daughter's cause by sending whatever financial contributions possible to help expedite the surgery. All contributions should be remitted to Account Number 9412045 at the Bank of Ceylon Peradeniya branch.
