Sandasen MARASINGHE
Colombo District Judge Sampath Wijeratne yesterday allowed for the
termination of the case filed by Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara against some
members of the executive committee of the Patriotic National Movement
including Ven. Dambara Amila Thera seeking to prevent them from holding
exhibitions or press conferences on behalf of the Patriotic National
Movement.
The Court dismissed the case after the plaintiff, President of the
Patriotic National Movement Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara submitted before
the Court he would withdraw the case he filed last year.
Plaintiff Amarasekara pleaded before Courts to prevent Ven. Dambara
Amila Thera, Dr. Sayakkara Jayawardene Soyza, Thasi Hasan and Vini
Hettigoda from holding all exhibitions and press conferences until the
pending disciplinary inquiry conducted against them by the PNM was over.
The plaintiff also stated that the majority of the executive
committee has suspended the committee membership of the defendants and a
disciplinary inquiry was pending.
The defendants in their affidavits stated that the allegations were
baseless and the constitution submitted by Amarasekara was false. They
prayed before the Court to declare that the constitution they submitted
before Court was that of the Patriotic National Movement.
